QuantumScape Corporation is engaged in developing battery technology for electric vehicles (EVs) and other applications. The Company is focused on the development and commercialization of its solid-state lithium-metal batteries. The Company’s batteries are designed to enable greater energy density, faster charging and enhanced safety to support the transition away from legacy energy sources toward a lower carbon future. Its solid-state separator is the core technology that enables reliable cycling of the lithium-metal anode battery. Its solid-state separator is an inorganic ceramic that is placed between a cathode and anode current collector to form a single battery cell layer. The building block of its designed battery package is the bilayer cell, consisting of a double-sided cathode with a separator on either side. The Company stacks these bilayer cells together to form multi-layer cells. Its form factor for EV batteries is targeted to be roughly the size of a deck of cards.
